The proposed Kingswood Battery is located approximately 6 km southeast of Tamworth (NSW) and is at the planning stage. It is planned to have a capacity of around 270 megawatts (MW) and 2 hours of electricity storage. The battery, including supporting infrastructure, will be based on approximately eight hectares (ha) and will connect to the Tamworth Substation. I

If the project is approved, it is anticipated that construction works will commence in 2025, with operations to commence in 2026.

As a State Significant Development (SSD), Kingswood BESS will undergo a rigorous approval process under the NSW Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (DPHI). The Scoping Report was lodged in October 2023 and has since received the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). The Scoping Report and SEARs are currently available on the NSW Major Projects Website: https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects/projects/kingswood-battery-energy-storage-system

We are actively undertaking consultation, environmental and technical assessments as part of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in response to the outlines SEARs.

Community feedback is central to our project development and we want to ensure that we are responsive to local knowledge and feedback.
